It was recently claimed that Amazon Prime Video’s God of War series is set to start filming in March 2026. This has prompted fans of the franchise worldwide to wonder who will be playing Kratos, the iconic lead of the series since 2005. It’s a hefty role to fill both physically and in terms of aura, and only a few actors would be capable of stepping into those shoes.
In a recent video, movie insider John Campea took a deep dive into the rumors surrounding the potential Kratos actor, some of which are fairly obvious. The full list is below.
Who Will Play Kratos in God of War?
From the game’s earliest origins, Kratos was voiced by Terrence C. Carson, who relinquished the role for the ‘reboot’ in 2018, passing the torch to Christopher Judge. Fans have now started wondering who will pick up the responsibility of playing Kratos in a live-action adaptation.
John Campea recently uploaded a 26-minute video discussing just that, laying out the rumors on the table and scattering in a few fancasts, some of which have been met with ridicule on social media.
Here’s his list:
- Winston Duke (Black Panther)
- Joe Manganiello (True Blood)
- Christopher Judge (God of War)
- Manu Bennett (Spartacus)
- Jason Momoa (Aquaman)
- Travis Fimmel (Vikings)
- Olivier Richters (Black Widow)
- Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy)
At one point, Campea leaned into the suggestion that Paul Levesque, otherwise known as Triple H, could make the cut.
There are some pretty obvious picks from that list, and some fancasts thrown in for good measure. The long and short of it is that while Judge has the voice, he no longer has the body to keep up a demanding live-action representation of Kratos. The same might be said for Dave Bautista, once a man mountain who has downsized considerably in recent years.
Momoa is another obvious pick, but social sentiment seems to edge towards Winston Duke or Travis Fimmel. Fans dismissed the likes of Olivier Richters for being far too big. The Dutch bodybuilder and actor stands at more than seven feet tall and is built to extreme proportions, which isn’t entirely accurate for Kratos.
It also depends entirely on when in the timeline the God of War series is set, or if it’s an original story entirely. Whether it’s young Kratos or old Kratos makes a world of difference.
