The biggest video game of all time in more ways than one. Rockstar’s newest Grand Theft Auto title will be played by hundreds of millions worldwide when all is said and done, so let’s see how much space GTA 6 requires on PS5 and XBOX Series X|S.
GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026, after years of waiting. All the delays, the lack of communication; it’s been a painful process for the community. As its release has become more real, so has information about the game, including its file size on PlayStation and XBOX consoles.
How Big is GTA 6 File Size? Storage Space Required

Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 requires exactly 212 GB of storage space at first, before subsequent updates or content additions.
On November 3, Rockstar unveiled full details about GTA 6’s pre-load date and times. You know when you can have the game ready, and at what time, but it’s no good if your PlayStation or XBOX is clogged up with hundreds of gigabytes of other games.

In Rockstar‘s words:
‘The pre-load file will require up to 212 GB depending on your device, so make sure you’ve got ample space to begin pre-loading as soon as possible.’
The ‘depending on your device’ part is noteworthy, as it’s unclear if this means it’s this size on PlayStation, where GTA 6 apparently plays best. It could be the case that it’s slightly bigger on XBOX, but we’ll have to see on that front.
What this does is confirm the leaked report about Grand Theft Auto 6’s initial download size being at least 210 GB. Obviously, once Grand Theft Auto 6 is out, Rockstar will support the game for many years wth various updates, and this will bloat the launch file size further.
This makes GTA 6’s file size one of the biggest in gaming history. Different sources suggest other games have gone above and beyond the 300 GB mark, and any Call of Duty fan who’s had a recent mainline game installed, along with Warzone, won’t blink twice at 212 GB.

From the game’s roleplay elements to the public transport system and the GTA 6 map size, the file size is more than justified.
