In an unexpected development, EA’s official stance on the future of the EA Sports Formula 1 (F1) series appears to have shifted.
On Tuesday, it was confirmed to Insider Gaming via a representative for EA Sports F1 that the two-year option that was included as part of the current licensing deal was triggered. That deal would keep the series, which was contracted to wrap up at the end of 2025, going until at least 2027.
Based on that direct communication, a story was published reflecting the update. However, later in the day, the same representative followed up with a clarification, saying: “Apologies for the inconvenience, but we’ve been informed that the information we provided earlier today is inaccurate and we don’t have any information at this time.”
F1 also said that they were “unable to provide any further information” at this time.
It’s unclear whether this was a simple case of internal miscommunication leading to the initial confirmation, or if it reflects ongoing negotiations behind the scenes that have yet to be finalized. Given the timing—EA Sports F1 released on May 30 for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC—the lack of clarity may raise concerns among fans about the franchise’s long-term future.
Insider Gaming has reached out to both EA and F1 for further clarification on the discrepancy and the timeline of events. This story will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
