‘Don’t Expect A Destiny Announcement’: Bungie Says About The Game Awards

Destiny fans were fearing for the future of the franchise just a few short months ago, as Bungie announced the end of Destiny 2, with no new game seemingly in production. However, following a major online campaign, Bungie reassured fans that it’s “not done with Destiny,” confirming that a new chapter for the franchise is in the works.

That doesn’t mean a new Destiny game is just around the corner, though. Bungie has made it clear that fans shouldn’t expect any major announcements in the immediate future, with the studio already ruling out an appearance at this year’s The Game Awards.

No Destiny At The Game Awards

In a recent blog post, Bungie made it clear that fans shouldn’t “expect a Destiny announcement at the TGA’s this year, or to randomly drop a logo that sets the world on fire right away.”

While that might disappoint those of you hoping for an early glimpse at what’s next for the franchise, taking a more measured approach could be the right move. Few things are more frustrating than seeing a game announced years before it’s ready to launch, and Bungie appears keen to avoid building expectations too early.

It also suggests that a new Destiny game could still be some way off. Nevertheless, given the uncertainty surrounding the franchise just a few months ago, confirmation that Bungie is still planning for its future should come as a relief to longtime fans.

That doesn’t mean the studio has nothing to share in the meantime, either. While a major new game announcement might be off the table for now, there are still several Destiny projects for players to look forward to.

First up is Destiny 2’s Unvaulting initiative, which aims to bring back previously removed campaigns, activities, and other content. The process is expected to take until early 2028 to reach its initial release, but it should eventually help restore a lot of the content that longtime players have been missing.

Beyond Destiny 2, Bungie also outlined a mysterious Destiny ‘Legacy’ project in its latest blog post, with an update expected next February. Details remain scarce, but recent teasers have led to speculation that the project could involve a remastered version of the original Destiny.

Such a release would certainly fit the ‘Legacy’ name, although Bungie has yet to confirm exactly what it has planned. For now, fans will have to wait a little longer to discover what’s next for the franchise.
