Bungie has posted a new article on social media explaining the state of play with anti-cheat activities in and around Marathon, the all-new extraction shooter that launched last month. They stressed that they have a zero-tolerance policy around cheating, and that active bans are both ongoing and evolving through better telemetry and detection methods.
They detailed what’s happening to make it easier to report malicious operators in Marathon, and in another note, explained what they’re doing about fighting stream sniping. This has long been an issue in games that have any kind of creator-based component, which Marathon does – for now.
Marathon’s Anti-Cheat Mechanics Are Evolving
Bungie wrote in a new post on social media:
We have a zero-tolerance policy around cheating. We’re actively banning confirmed cheaters and expanding our telemetry and detection methods to better catch the aforementioned cheaters. Some of this work is live already, and more improvements will roll out over the coming weeks. Anti-cheat is a continuous cycle of monitoring, improving, and responding. This is an area that we will continue to invest in to protect the integrity of your runs.
They went on to explain that they’re working on three key areas of improvement:
- They’re making it easier to flag suspected cheaters
- They’re improving how harassment can be reported
- They’re exploring feedback options to let you know when someone has been banned after your report
Further, better voice and chat moderation tools are being invested in to more reliably catch users abusing others in-game. Stream sniping is also being looked at, with a keen focus on the team fixing the issues running rampant in ranked mode. As Bungie wrote, it’s a ‘real pain point’ that they want to address.
