During a new gameplay showcase, Bandai Namco revealed some of the roster and four brand-new features in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is the next anticipated installment in the 3D fighting series, also known as Budokai Tenkaichi in the west.
Today’s showcase reveals that Sparking Zero will keep features like Dragon Dash and Impact Action. However, it will also add some big changes. These include a movement boost, a Skill Count that builds to a Revenge Counter or Super Perception, and Vanishing Assaults.
The showcase also confirmed some of the key characters joining the roster, such as Master Roshi and Nappa.
Bandai Namco first announced Dragon Ball Sparking Zero at The Game Awards 2023. Subsequent teasers were very brief and didn’t show much.
Today, Bandai Namco showed off a lot more combat gameplay. Although the devs warn this footage was still “under development”, the visuals do look improved compared to previous titles.
Unfortunately, the devs did not confirm a release window just yet. Fans speculate that the game could release later this year, possibly in Q4. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero will be available on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Last month, Bandai Namco cancelled five games under development, after changing its development structure. The company said it “recorded a loss on disposal of these titles”.
Meanwhile, Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 continues to perform well and maintain strong reviews. It reached 2 million copies sold in its first month.
Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama recently passed away at 68. So, fans will surely be pleased to see Toriyama’s incredible legacy continue to entertain in games like Sparking Zero.
