Netflix Wants A Director For Generative AI In Games

Netflix appears to be fully aboard the generative AI train, and is looking for a new director to lead the way. In a job posting available online, Netflix is looking for a “Head of Gen AI” to “lead the strategy and application of Gen AI across our games organization.”

“This role sits at the intersection of technology, product, and creativity – driving how we leverage cutting-edge AI to create meaningful, novel, and scalable experiences for players,” the job description reads. “Your mandate is to shape and scale our approach to Generative AI, from core capabilities to in-game features to entirely new forms of play, anchored in both what’s technically feasible and what’s compelling for players.”

Netflix’s investment in AI for games shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. After the company began shutting down studios, the company’s, at the time, VP of GenAI for Games Mike Verdu spoke about it being “the future of gaming”.

“This transformational technology will accelerate the velocity of development and unlock truly novel game experiences that will surprise, delight, and inspire players,” he said.

It’s worth noting that Verdu is no longer with the company.

Also mentioned in the posting is the desire of knowing “when and how Gen AI adds real value to the experience” along with the ability to “influence broader company thinking around Gen AI.” That seems to suggest it won’t be an every game uses it type of situation, but, with how fast things move and company’s looking to streamline and cut costs wherever they can, that could change down the line.

Oh, and the listing says the pay will be between $430,000 and $840,000 per year.

What do you think of Netflix, and likely other companies, going further into generative AI use in video games? Let us know down in the comments, and join the newly relaunched Insider Gaming Discord server.
