Microsoft and Xbox are in the middle of holding mass layoffs across a number of Xbox’s first-party studios. With those layoffs have come game cancellation reveals for titles such as Everwild and Perfect Dark. But, if you were worried about the latest games shown from Xbox being shut down, that’s reportedly not the case right now.
According to multiple reports, the games that were shown as part of the Xbox Games Showcase in June are “safe”. The information comes from numerous reporters along with Xbox Games Studio head Matt Booty’s internal memo to the company.
Xbox currently as “more than 40 games” in active development across its studios.
“Our overall portfolio strategy is unchanged: build games that excite our players, continue to grow our biggest franchises, and create new stories, worlds, and characters,” Booty’s memo to Xbox staff said. “We have more than 40 projects in active development, continued momentum on titles shipping this fall, and a strong slate headed into 2026.”

Despite claims from Xbox itself that its recently shown games are safe, it’s worth mentioning that Perfect Dark was shown during June 2024’s game showcase. That game, along with the closure of its developer The Initiative, were part of the round of layoffs.
Microsoft has not responded to any request for comment on the layoffs, game cancellations, or studio closures. Should any response be received, it will be added to this story and others.
