Xbox CEO Says Idea of a Mobile Store is “Not Dead”

Asha Sharma has clarified that, even though the Xbox Mobile Store page is down, the idea is not dead yet.

The CEO of Xbox recently announced significant changes to Xbox Game Pass, including a price reduction and the confirmation that Call of Duty games will not be available as Day One releases on the service. Now, Asha Sharma has discussed another area of the business, the Xbox Mobile Store, indicating that it may still have some potential for growth.

Xbox Mobile Store is Down, But the Idea of It Is Not Dead

The issue with the Xbox Mobile Store surfaced recently when players realized the store page was no longer functional and was showing an error. Jez Corden addressed this removal on X (formerly Twitter) and received a response from Asha Sharma. Sharma stated that an amicus was filed three weeks ago, arguing that “mobile competition still matters,” and that they want the future of play to be “more open”. The CEO added that while they are still learning, “the idea of an Xbox mobile store is not dead.”

In 2024, former Xbox President Sarah Bond announced that an Xbox mobile gaming store was in the works. The goal was to bring their first-party portfolio to the store, along with games like Candy Crush and Minecraft. They had decided that the store would be web-based at first, to make it “accessible across all devices, all countries, no matter what, and independent of the policies of closed ecosystem stores.”

In other news, a new claim suggests that Xbox Game Pass is looking to become more flexible, with a ‘pick your own plan’ option under consideration.
