Call of Duty: WW2 Players Reporting RCE Exploits on PC

Be careful if you want to play Call of Duty: WW2 through Game Pass on PC – some users have been reporting falling victim to RCE (Remote Command Execution) hacks. The earliest reports of this surfaced just a few hours ago, with players taking to social media to share some concerning stories, while others stressed this has been a problem ‘for years’ in COD WW2.

Call of Duty: WW2 was added to Game Pass on June 30, bolstering the line-up of Call of Duty titles already present on the service. It’s expected to be joined by more soon, but folks are going to start dropping off rapidly if these issues aren’t addressed.

What is an RCE Hack (Exploit)?

An RCE ‘hack’ or exploit is a method used by malicious operators to gain access to another player’s game or even their entire computer. It then allows the ‘hacker’ to run code and perform certain actions from wherever they are, potentially siphoning information or injecting malware.

This is not a new concept in Call of Duty, but many thought that by 2025, this issue would have been tackled somewhat by Activision’s anti-cheat experts.

Earlier today, ten Call of Duty games were taken offline for mysterious maintenance, and that list included Call of Duty: WW2. I’m working to verify if the RCE exploits are still a concern post-update, but from social media, it appears that they are.

COD Players Report Worrying Hacks

On social media, Call of Duty: WW2 players started uploading concerning images showing their computers being ‘taken over’ by hackers leveraging RCE exploits on PC.

The user above reported that the malicious operator was able to open up pornography on their second monitor while they played Call of Duty: WW2.

Several hours before the above was posted, BAMS, a popular YouTuber, posted a warning stressing how unsafe COD WW2 is on PC:

It’s unclear how deep these issues run and whether they’re being addressed by Activision’s studios as we speak. I’ve reached out to Activision to see what the story is and whether we can expect more of these issues when more of these classic Call of Duty titles are added to Game Pass.
