Everwild, an in-development action-adventure game from Rare, has been cancelled.
First reported by Jason Schreier and confirmed by Insider Gaming sources, the decision to cancel Everwild comes as Microsoft is letting go roughly 9,000 people. That includes including a number across the Xbox gaming division with Rare being just one of the studios hit by the layoffs.
As of writing, it’s unknown exactly how many people at Rare are set to lose their jobs. However, sources tell Insider Gaming that, as with a number of studios under Xbox, the changes are “significant”.
King, which Microsoft acquired as part of the Activision-Blizzard-King purchase, is already set to lose 200 people. Another studio Insider Gaming sources have heard will be impacted is Turn 10, though the depth of those changes are unknown.
Microsoft has not responded to any request for comment from Insider Gaming regarding the game’s cancellation or any of the layoffs taking place across Xbox and its various studios.
