The 5 million units that the Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly sold in its first 26 days may not be accurate.
On Tuesday, Nintendo’s investor relations website briefly showed information regarding the sales for the Switch 2 that included a breakdown of sales in various regions. After totaling the data, it came to roughly 5 million systems being sold since its June 5 launch. According to Nintendo, however, that data isn’t real.
In a statement given to David Gibson, Nintendo says that the data that appeared on its website was test data prior to making an official update.
“[It’s] temporarily visible data was for testing purposes only, and is not accurate and not related to any sales result or projection of Switch 2,” the company said.
After the statement was posted, video game analyst Daniel Ahmad chimed in saying that 5 million “is too low anyway”.
Nintendo is scheduled to release its next quarterly earnings report on August 1. That report is expected to include initial Switch 2 sales data such as console performance along with software performance for the first month of the new system.
