‘No Micro-Transactions Ever’: REPO Devs Talk About Battle Pass and Loot Box Mechanics

In a recent Q&A talking about the next major update for REPO and the outlook for the game in general, Semiwork made a bold statement about the future of the incredibly popular game. One question asked if there will ever be a REPO battle pass, premium subscription, or any loot box mechanics, and the team’s response was firm.

It was one of the more serious questions nestled amongst the satirical, tongue-in-cheek comments about how to kiss other players and whether a twerking emote would be added.

Once and Forever

In the Steam Q&A with Semiwork, several key questions were answered about REPO and how it’s shaping up. One core question asked about the intended monetisation model for REPO, asking if there will ever be a battle pass feature, paid mechanics, or loot boxes.

The team answered in a very straight manner:

No. You buy the game once, you have the game—no micro-transactions ever.

Semiwork’s development folks also revealed some sizeable changes coming to the museum in Update 1 (and other updates). It was also stressed that while REPO runs well on low-end machines, it won’t ever have a true ‘potato mode’ because of the need to keep dynamic shadows.

The team is also adding a public matchmaking option with a server list function when Update 1 comes around, which is a deliverable that fans have been clamouring for.

Elsewhere, it was confirmed that there are ‘no plans’ for truck customisation, custom carts aren’t planned, and the ability to recycle or sell back unwanted items has gone no further than ‘a discussion’.

Are you happy to see the REPO devs turning their back on microtransaction-based monetisation models? Let me know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming forum.
