The wait is finally over. After repeated tries from Epic Games to make it happen, Fortnite players can once again play the battle royale on iOS devices.
In 2020, Fortnite was removed from the Apple App Store due to a dispute between Apple and Epic Games. On May 9, 2025, Epic Games attempted to launch the game back onto iOS, but Apple stopped the process in its tracks with a lengthy review process.
Players still held out hope that Fortnite would eventually be approved, but instead, Apple blocked the game from appearing on the US App Store or Epic Games Store in the EU. Epic Games issued a statement confirming that Fortnite on iOS would be offline until Apple unblocks it. In response, A United States judge ordered Apple to explain why the battle royale remains blocked despite rulings allowing it to return to the app store. That final nudge was enough to get the game back.
Fortnite Officially Returns to Apple App Store
Epic Games confirmed, “Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the U.S. on iPhones and iPads… and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the E.U! It’ll show up in Search soon!”
Players in the United States can download the app on the Apple App Store. For iPhone, the game requires iOS 17.4 or later, and iPadOS 17.4 or later. The game requires 576.6 MB of free space on both devices.
This isn’t the only dispute on Epic Games’ plate, as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) filed an unfair labor practice charge against Epic for using AI for Darth Vader’s voice in Fortnite.
