With Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the horizon, it’s an exciting time for Metroid and Nintendo fans. However, the red brand recently made another interesting move by renewing the trademarks for two of the series’ legendary releases.
Metroid content has always been released slowly and methodically over the years. The 2000s saw a flurry of Metroid games across the Nintendo DS and GameCube. It’s become slightly more staggered recently, but we still get Metroid games regularly enough. With Metroid Prime 4 landing soon, we’re looking on curiously to see if Nintendo has more Metroid planned up its sleeve.
Metroid Prime Hunters & Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Trademarks Renewed by Nintendo

2006’s Metroid Prime Hunters and 2007’s Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are back in the headlines. Hunters was a fantastic release exclusively for the hot-selling Nintendo DS way back when, whereas Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was a big hit for the Wii.
The trademarks for both games have been spotted being renewed through Chizai Watch. I can hear you asking: “What does this mean?” To be honest, it could mean remasters or rereleases are on the cards, or quite literally nothing.
Trademarks all have an expiry date, and if this happens, it means someone else can do something with or acquire the expired Nintendo Metroid trademark. It’s either Nintendo protecting assets, or we’re getting more Metroid content in the future.
Let us know what you think. Is it a simple renewal of trademarks to ensure they stay with Nintendo longer? Or are more remasters forthcoming? Leave your thoughts on the Insider Gaming forum.
