Everything We Know About Metroid Prime 4

The first Metroid title was released back in 1986, with many additional titles and remakes to follow after it. While we have seen a few remakes in the past years, it has been quite some time since we have seen a brand-new Metroid title. Luckily, Nintendo has been hard at work developing Metroid Prime 4.

Here is everything we know so far about Metroid Prime 4.

Metroid Prime: A Brief History of the Series

The first Metroid game was released back in 1986. The popular spacefighter featured 2D graphics and a riveting storyline for the time. Since then, there have been three main titles in the series, with multiple other side games released.

One of the most popular games in the series was Metroid Prime for the GameCube. The title was released back in 2002 and still holds up as one of the best Metroid games of all time.

The popular character in Metroid, Samus Aran, has also been seen in Super Smash Bros. Her fighting style became incredibly popular after her release in the game, making her a fan favorite for Smash players.

The most recent Metroid release was in 2023 when Nintendo and Retro Studios released a remaster of Metroid Prime for the Nintendo Switch.

Now, fans are patiently waiting for Metroid Prime 4, which was first announced in 2017.

When Will Metroid Prime 4 Release?

Unfortunately, there is no definite release date for Metroid Prime 4. The game was announced back in 2017, which means fans have already waited seven years for the game to drop.

The good news is, that Nintendo does not release a game until it is fully ready, putting the most amount of time possible into making sure each title they put out is perfect. We saw this with Breath of the Wild, which was pushed back years from its initial release. The game ended up going to win Game of the Year, making it one of the greatest video games ever released.

So will Metroid Prime 4 released in 2024? The answer is still up in the air. We will keep you updated at Insider Gaming as more news is released.

Will Metroid Prime 4 Be Available for PS5, Xbox or PC?

Sadly, no, Metroid Prime 4 will not be available to play on PS5, Xbox or PC. The series is a Nintendo exclusive, meaning it only is playable on Nintendo systems.

As of now, the game will more than likely be released on the current Nintendo Switch. But, rumours of the Nintendo Switch 2 being released in late 2024 have surfaced, making some sceptical about whether or not the game will release for the original Switch.

The game could also be released on both systems, though, like how Breath of the Wild was released on both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

Will Metroid Prime 4 have a Multiplayer Mode?

A large majority of Metroid games have NOT featured a multiplayer mode, but that does mont mean Metroid Prime 4 will not either. In fact, in the past, games like Metroid Prime 2: Echoes did have a Multiplayer mode, allowing players to game together.

Metroid Prime 3 didn’t have a multiplayer mode, which makes some worried that the fourth may not either, but there is no information on whether or not players will be able to play together or not on the new title.

Metroid has always been about the story, making it an incredibly popular single-player RPG series, so a multiplayer mode is not expected but is also not being ruled out.

Will Metroid Prime 4 have a Large Story?

Metroid stories seem to always get pretty in-depth. Both Nintendo and Retro Studios have gone quite hard in the past when developing characters and the plot.

So will Metroid Prime 4 be the same?

In 2020, Retro Studios posted a job advertisement seeking people who could storyboard for the new Metroid title. The job role specifically asked for someone who can help create “emotional” and “interesting and innovative scenes that elevate the narrative.”

This can only mean that the studio is going for a more cinematic route, making Metroid Prime 4 build up the hype around its storyline.

Is Metroid Prime First-Person?

Yes, every 3D Metroid game is first-person, meaning Metroid Prime 4 will more than likely be first-person too.

In the past, there have been third-person modes and 2D modes too. Metroid Prime 4, though, seems to be going for a very cinematic look and will more than likely be first-person like the previous games in the series.
