The new Nintendo Switch might not be a new console in the traditional sense.
According to Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games, via GamesIndustry.biz, his firm doesn’t think the next Nintendo console will be all that revolutionary. Instead, it’ll appear to be more like a pro model than something major.
“The next system is also likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution,” Toto said. “Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch.”
In addition to his prediction of the console not being a major step forward, Toto says that he feels the console will be $400, a $100 jump from the price of the original Nintendo Switch. There’s also a belief that games will move to the $70 price point, which Nintendo started to do with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. At the time, the company said the price point would be on a game-by-game basis as opposed to a one-price-fits-all model.
It’s worth noting that this is pure speculation from a consulting firm as opposed to anything concrete. Nintendo has refused to mention anything specific about its next console, and likely won’t until the company decides to do the reveal.
The next Nintendo Switch console was reportedly shown behind closed doors at Gamescom back in August. The console has been long-rumored and is expected, to be revealed at some point this year.
