It has been claimed in a recent report that a Killzone game is coming to end the freeze put on the series for more than a decade. The last new Killzone game was Shadow Fall, released for the PlayStation 4 in 2013, the last major release before Guerrilla pivoted to work on the Horizon franchise.
This could be great news for first-person shooter fans, and for those with a penchant for retro games, but it’s unclear what exactly is on the way. The report suggests it’s a remake or a remaster, but it doesn’t identify which game it would be, although logic dictates it would be the original Killzone game, released way back in 2004 on PlayStation 2.
Is Killzone Coming Back?
In the 2000s, Killzone was a stellar shooter that rivalled the likes of Halo and Call of Duty, emerging with three full-fledged new games in the space of seven years. That made up the core trilogy, then Shadow Fall, a ‘next-gen’ take on the series set much further in the universe’s future, launched in 2013.
Along the way, there was a PSP special, a PS Vita-exclusive launch, and a re-release of the first three games via a trilogy pack.

Now, thanks to a new rumor that has surfaced courtesy of MP1st, it seems another release is inbound. This time, it’s a remaster or a remake, most likely of the game that started it all more than 20 years ago.
The report states that ‘people familiar with the situation’ have claimed Guerrilla Games is working with an external studio to produce this reiteration of one of the all-time greatest FPS titles. It then went on to suggest that it could be People Can Fly that’s working on the game, hand-in-hand with Guerrilla.
This is based on a March 2025 agreement penned between People Can Fly and PlayStation to co-develop a game based on an existing PlayStation-based IP. Could that be Killzone? It’s very possible.

It would be something monumental for another Killzone title to surface, especially one built on today’s technology. I’d happily lap up a full-bore remake of the first game, and if it came with a refreshed multiplayer platform, it would do bits, as the kids say.
It’s worth stressing that People Can Fly has worked on Bulletstorm, Gears Judgment, and Outriders in the past, so it also has chops in the shooter space.
