MADFINGER Games has fully uncovered Winds of War, the long-awaited overhaul to Gray Zone Warfare, an exciting MMOFPS with incredible levels of realism. This update is nothing short of staggering, offering stacks of new ways to engage (or avoid) enemies, fresh gameplay mechanics, and plenty of new weapons to get your hands on.
I’ve been fortunate to be one of the first to experience Winds of War, which adds more content and innovation to Gray Zone Warfare than I ever thought possible.
Everything New in Winds of War
MADFINGER has touted Winds of War for a while, and for good reason. This monumental update adds so much that it might as well be considered Gray Zone Warfare 2.0.
I’m not kidding.
First, you’ve got the Combat Outposts mechanic, which is comprised of minor and major outposts that can be taken over by factions and defended against all comers, providing players with unique vendors, in-field lockers, and a fresh position to fight from.
All over the map, players will now have the ability to call in mortar strikes to turn the tide of battle. In classic Gray Zone Warfare style, the mechanic is intensely realistic, and the further you are from a mortar site, the longer it’ll take for that strike to arrive, which could give your enemies time to reposition and reconsider their approach.
As we all know, Every Move Matters.
If you’ve been hurting for new weapons, Winds of War brings plenty to play with:
- SVD
- MP7
- SIG MCX
- Mosin-Nagant Carbine
- Beretta M9A1
- Colt Combat Commander
Naturally, those weapons come hand-in-hand with new ammo types and a slew of weapon parts – more than 80 in total.
Winds of War wouldn’t be Winds of War without, you know, winds. That’s why MADFINGER has painstakingly applied an incredible and dynamic weather system in Gray Zone Warfare. This feature is intense, introducing rain, storms, fog, and yes, wind, all based on real-world algorithms and backed by a weather forecast system.
PvP Conflict Zones have also popped up in Winds of War, which are kicked off when factions engage one another, creating a ‘killzone’ of sorts that lets you know where the best PvP opportunities can be found (or avoided). This means that you can rush to the aid of your faction pals – or let them succumb and potentially take advantage of a third-party opportunity…
But you wouldn‘t do that, right?
The world exploration mechanics have been boosted immeasurably in Winds of War, too. The team has spent countless hours pouring effort into the open-world vibes of Gray Zone Warfare, adding more than 40 new tasks, 30+ all-new ‘real-time tasks’, and 60+ smaller locations that you’ll find as you explore Lamang.
AI patrols have been expanded, new interactions have been introduced, and loot boxes have been scattered around the world, ripe for the picking.
Finally, you’ll be able to meet Vulture, a brand-new vendor who buys and sells lost gear from players. He has a lot of cash to burn, but he’s only available at the Combat Outposts I mentioned earlier, so you’ll need to put in some work to unlock him.
WAIT, you thought that was everything?
Oh, my sweet summer child.
Improved matchmaking, destructible lights, body dragging, repair kits, enhanced health system, XP upgrades, in-field task completion, squad-based tasks, gear tags for tracking, faction armbands… Did I mention that this feels like Gray Zone Warfare 2.0?
