Fortnite Mobile Launch Back to Square One After Long Apple Review

Fortnite Mobile’s launch on ios in the United States is back to square one after a long wait for the initial app review, meaning the long wait for a return to the platform continues.

The long-awaited relaunch of Fortnite Mobile on Apple devices in the US was expected last week, with the first build sent for review on Friday, May 9, but the review process has taken longer than was expected.

Apple itself says that 90% of app submissions are “reviewed in less than 24 hours,” but there has been no movement on the Fortnite front—and it’s now been confirmed that the entire process has begun all over again.

Responding on X, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney explained that the new content drop, which has been slightly pushed back to Friday, must be released simultaneously across all platforms and, therefore, the previous Fortnite build submitted to Apple App Review last week has been pulled.

The latest update has been submitted in a new version for review, and the ball is now back in Apple’s court, though there’s no indication of how long that will take.

Is Apple Obstructing The Fortnite Mobile Release?

Apple has not commented on the long and unusual review process for Fortnite Mobile, though Sweeney has not held back with his assessment of the situation.

Responding again on X to a user that asked why this delay was not planned for, Sweenet stated that “release planning relies on platforms supporting app developers like us releasing apps.”

As Fortnite is an ever-evolving game with regular updates, there is “no way” they can operate “if platforms use their power or processes to obstruct.”

Fortnite’s weekly updates during the Galactic Battle mini-season mean that the process could have to begin all over again next week if the app review is not complete by the time the next content drop, Mandalorian Rising, releases. Fortnite stated ahead of the season that the update is expected May 22.
