Borderlands 4 Deep Dive Reveals Loads Of New Game Features

On Wednesday afternoon, PlayStation and Gearbox held a special Borderlands 4 State of Play showcase, giving players a deep five into gameplay and other features coming to the newest title in the popular series.

For over 20 minutes, creative director Graeme Timmins and senior project producer Anthony Nicholson dove showed off four new vault hunters, weapons, traversal mechanics, the game’s new planet Kairos, and more.

What Was Shown During The Borderlands 4 Deep Dive?

During the 20-minute-plus Borderlands 4 deep dive, players were given a look at mission gameplay with extra details revealed throughout. The game will be fully cross-platform at launch, allowing players to play with anyone no matter the platform. Players will even be able to customize their individual difficulty, even when playing with others.

In addition, as you travel the map during your play, dynamic events will appear to give you options for what you want to do at a given time.

On Kairos, there will be four zones for players to “seamlessly explore” with “next to no loading time” between the zones. Speaking of the new planet, there is dynamic weather and even wildlife located throughout.

Borderlands 4 also features full mission and boss replay for those who want to just replay a specific areas of the game. That eliminates the need to load from specific save points in order to replay the area you’d like.

Regarding in-game gear, each piece comes from one of eight manufacturers, all having their own unique characteristics. For example, Jakobs manufactures weapons that have better critical hit abilities while Vladof weapons aren’t that accurate but support more ammo to make up for it.

There was a lot covered in this first deep dive, and definitely more to unpack than what’s above. So, if you missed the showcase or want to just rewatch everything again, you can check it out below. And be sure to let us know what you thought of everything revealed in during the Borderlands 4 showcase either down below or in the official Insider Gaming forums.

Borderlands 4 launches September 12 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
