The original Borderlands 4 release date has been changed. The news comes from the mouth of Gearbox President and CEO Randy Pitchford. Whereas most release date news is usually a delay, this is quite the opposite.
Borderlands 4 looks to be an even more Borderlands-y version of itself. More guns, more guts, and potentially more glory. It hit some negative headlines early on with suggestions the fourth mainline game could cut back on the toilet humor the series has become so renowned for.
We finally got its official release date during Sony’s February 2025 State of Play. A positive twist has occurred as its launch has been moved up, meaning we are throwing the babies and Skag carcasses in the air sooner than expected.
Borderlands 4 Release Date Moved to Sept. 12, 2025

At the time of writing, the original announcement video has been removed. It was originally posted to Randy Pitchford’s official X page, but was removed soon after, citing “time zones” as the reason.
But it means the original information still stands—Borderlands 4 is out on September 12.
If you’re keeping score, this means we get Borderlands 4 a tasty 11 days early. Some players might have hoped it was even earlier, but we’re not complaining!
It hasn’t taken long for the community to question this decision, though. Why would 2K want Borderlands 4 to launch earlier? Maybe to give it extra breathing space before GTA 6? That’s for us to ponder, and hopefully, have the question answered in the coming weeks.

Do you think we’re barking up the wrong tree? Or could a GTA 6 trailer 2 be on the way, possibly hinting at Grand Theft Auto 6 coming in October?
