PlatinumGames Isn’t Letting Babylon Falls Flop Stop Potential Plans For New Online Action Game

Action titles are considered bread-and-butter releases for PlatinumGames. 2022’s Babylon’s Fall was an ambitious AAA project with multiplayer elements that failed spectacularly. But new job listings suggest the developer is ready to go for round two.

PlatinumGames has a portfolio of games that most studios would kill for. Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising, and Astral Chain are all stellar examples of the type of action the company specializes in. There’s so much trust in PlatinumGames that Ninja Gaiden 4 is being developed in tandem with Team Ninja.

2022’s Babylon’s Fall is considered a miss, though. It reviewed horribly and sold even worse. It was shut down within a year, but it looks like PlatinumGames is giving online multiplayer another go.

As reported by Tech4Gamers, PlatinumGames is pursuing a very specific type of game designer. Not content with Ninja Gaiden 4, the company wants this individual to have certain skills:

  • Experience working on online action game development.
  • Experience in level design for online or open field games.
  • Image editing in Photoshop.
  • Communication skills using images.”

The first qualities are the most striking on the list. With Babylon’s Fall’s closure, this leaves the developer without a presence in the online and/or live-service market.

Not much else is known about the potential project. But we’re confident in believing PlatinumGames has taken on board all criticism for Babylon’s Fall. Not everything can be a winner, so we’ll see if the team’s second effort can live up to the high expectations of previous work.
