Witcher 3 Beat Every Other Game in New Wishlists During Gamescom, 10 Years Later

It has been estimated (probably quite accurately) that The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, the all-new expansion landing next year, managed to secure more new wishlists than any other Gamescom-featured title. That means this decade-old open-world RPG has managed to beat everything from Ananta and WARDOGS to The Blood of Dawnwalker and Metro 2039.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been on the market for ten years, but that means nothing to the game’s die-hard fans. During Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, CDPR revealed an upcoming remastered update and the new Songs of the Past expansion, proving that they’re the ultimate gods of resurgences.

It’s 2015 All Over Again

In a graphic posted on social media by Alinea Analytics, a data firm, it was suggested that The Witcher 3’s Songs of the Past expansion secured as many as 451,000 new wishlists following its Gamescom reveal.

This was followed by Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons in second place with as many as 379,000 wishlists, then the bizarrely jam-packed open-world Ananta in third place with 302,000 wishlists.

From there, a smattering of games make up the remaining spots:

  • LEGO Skylines: 273,000
  • Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake: 189,000
  • WARDOGS: 146,000
  • AFTERWORLD: 121,000
  • Metro 2039: 110,000
  • The Blood of Dawnwalker: 108,000

The team at Alinea explained that the numbers were obtained from the increases observed between August 23 and 30, spanning the Gamescom event.

It makes sense, too. The Songs of the Past expansion was one of the most jaw-dropping reveals at the event, and the deep-dive we received behind closed doors made me feel as though I was meeting with an old friend after years apart. It was warm, comfortable, and hugely exciting.

If it’s possible for expansions to receive GOTY awards, you’ll want to keep an eye on Songs of the Past next year.

  • The DLC not the game. Honestly insane they made DLC at the end of the following generation. Do PS4 and Xbox One owners get this too? Was Witcher 3 on 360 and PS3? If so do they get this?
