The Simpsons: Hit & Run Writer Says ‘Never Say Never’ About a Revival

The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a cult classic title that almost defined a generation of gamers. It’s an unforgettable game that dropped in 2003 and has enjoyed a popularity streak ever since that most titles can only dream about. It’s still one of the most prominent reasons for owning a console from that era, to get that hit of nostalgia now and then.

In a recent interview, Hit & Run’s writer and one of the showrunners on The Simpsons show, Matt Selman, spoke about the game’s rampant success and suggested a revival isn’t all that unrealistic a premise.

Will The Simpsons Hit & Run Ever Come Back?

The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a fan-favorite marvel that’s still talked about today. When talk turns to games that deserve a remaster or a remake, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is always high on the list. It has been more than two decades since it graced the likes of the original Xbox and the PlayStation 2, and it easily offers a delightful trip down memory lane today.

In a recent interview with People.com, Matt Selman, showrunner and writer on The Simpsons (and Hit & Run, back in the day), suggested a revival isn’t impossible.

Hit & Run is so interesting.

I’m a thousand years old, and when I was in my mid to late 20s, I helped write Hit & Run. I had no idea it would become a cult game, a cult success.

Of course, it’s so long ago, but I remember being in a meeting with whoever made it and Grand Theft Auto III had just come out, and so we were like, ‘This has to be The Simpsons version of that. You have to be able to get in and out of the cars.’

Nothing is set in stone. But my quote about Hit & Run would be, ‘Never say never,’ because we know people love it. We know they want it, so that’s good. If we know people want it, never say never.

Before, Selman touched on the idea of a remaster, but he suggested that because of licensing and corporate complications, it’s a tricky path to navigate.

Regardless, fans are eager to get their hands on an updated version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Fan projects have surfaced over the years, but nothing comes close to the concept of an official reboot. Imagine exploring a large, open-world Springfield with a host of iconic characters and vehicles with today’s technology as the game’s backbone.

Phenomenal stuff.
