An animated Tetris series has been announced, adapting the classic puzzle game’s core gameplay into a brand-new television adventure.
As television and film adaptations of video games continue to be a popular trend, a new animated series based on Tetris. Tetris: World Builders was announced during the recent Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The official press release notes that the series is aimed at children aged 6 and above.
The series hopes to blend imaginative storytelling with STEAM-inspired problem-solving. STEAM is an educational framework that expands the STEM learning system. The letters form an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Theoretically, it is a system designed to help children think more critically, something that Tetris has been doing for over 30 years with its puzzle-based gameplay.

According to the Tetris Company, the series is in early development and was created by TeamTO producers Marco Balsamo and Tara Sibel Demren. Chuck Williams is also said to be an executive producer; he’s known for his work on other video game adaptations, such as the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. The plot of the series involves mysterious tetriminos falling from the sky, and a young team of world builders must adapt, evolve, and solve problems amid this crisis.
