Lenovo Says Memory Price Hikes May Never Fully Reverse

While it’s not the most surprising announcement, Lenovo has said that DRAM prices will not return to previous norms for a long time. In fact, it’s stated to be likely that they will never return to the prices that were standard just last year.

This announcement comes from a presentation at ISC 2026. Also, this falls at a time when gaming hardware is rapidly increasing in price, and Xbox just announced another price hike for consoles that have been on the market for several years now.

Lenovo Expects Memory Prices to Remain Elevated for Years

The comments from the Lenovo representative are taken from a ComputerBase.de report. It’s reported that the use of the word “never” when stating that prices won’t return to the previous year’s norm was exaggerated. However, it’s believed that for at least the next five years, these raised prices are expected.

“A ‘new normal’ could emerge from 2030 onwards, but with significantly higher prices than in 2024 and 2025. This already takes into account the large-scale launch of new manufacturing capacities starting in 2028,” the report states.

Earlier this week, Valve announced that its Steam Machine will cost over $1,000. Apple also recently announced unavoidable price hikes for its tech products. PlayStation, which recently outlined plans to go all in on AI, will reportedly launch its next console sooner than previously anticipated.
