ARC Raiders Cancels Expeditions Until Early 2027

Embark Studios has confirmed that the upcoming fifth Expedition for ARC Raiders will be the game’s last until early 2027, as the developer prepares to overhaul the system following persistent complaints from the community.

Expeditions allow players to voluntarily wipe their Raider’s progress in exchange for a selection of permanent and temporary rewards. However, the system has struggled to win over the community since its introduction, with many players questioning whether the rewards are worth sacrificing their progress.

The news comes directly from Embark Studios in its latest ARC Raiders blog post, which details the upcoming fifth Expedition.

The next Expedition Window will open on September 8 and remain available until September 29, giving players three weeks to gather the necessary resources and prepare their Caravan for the wipe. As always, Expeditions are entirely optional and are primarily aimed at players who have invested significant time into the extraction shooter.

Completing an Expedition resets your Raider’s progress, leaving you with an empty stash and returning your character to level one. In exchange, players can earn a host of upgrades, as well as more Skill Points and Stash Space.

Despite these incentives, Expeditions have remained a point of contention within the community. Players have criticised everything from the limited departure windows to the reward structure, while accessibility has also been highlighted as a problem for newer players who may struggle to participate.

Embark has now acknowledged those concerns, stating that “bigger changes” are required to make Expeditions a more worthwhile part of ARC Raiders.

As a result, the fifth Expedition will be the last until early 2027, when the system is expected to return with significant improvements. Exactly when the revamped Expeditions will arrive remains unclear, although they could potentially return alongside the game’s next major update after Frozen Trail.

The lengthy absence does raise questions about how Embark intends to keep its most dedicated players engaged in the meantime. Wiping progression is a fundamental part of many extraction shooters, giving players a reason to repeatedly rebuild their characters and stashes. Without Expeditions, there could be concerns surrounding progression becoming stagnant or hardcore players running out of meaningful goals.

For now, it seems Frozen Trail will have plenty of heavy lifting to do, especially as Embark prepares to rethink one of ARC Raiders’ most controversial systems.
