Super Mario Galaxy Movie Earns $190M in 5 Days at U.S. Box Office

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has grossed nearly $200 million in its first 5 days at the U.S. box office. Now, there’s new data that shows how helpful the latest Nintendo and Illumination crossover has been for movie theaters.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie opened in theaters on April 1. A new report from Deadline notes that domestic 5-day earnings totaled $190 million. Globally, the film has earned $372.5 million. Statistically, it’s the second biggest 3-day opening for an Illumination title behind the original Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023.

Further Proof That The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Is a Massive Success at the Box Office

The success of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has helped the domestic box office surpass the $2 billion mark in the first quarter of the year. Additionally, the movie reportedly attracted 62% of non-frequent moviegoers.

AMC CEO Adam Aron gushed about the movie’s success. He was quoted as saying that the movie delivered on all accounts, with families and younger watchers showing up in huge numbers.

“It’s the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2026 so far. As we look ahead to the rest
of the spring and summer, we see one blockbuster after another soon to be released, which leads to the obvious conclusion that the trajectory for our industry is very encouraging.”

The movie wasn’t necessarily a smash hit with critics, but Mario continues to draw crowds even after celebrating 40 years as a standalone video game star. Of course, the most recent movie also featured the likes of Yoshi, Luigi, and Star Fox’s Fox McCloud.

Pikmin were also featured in a cameo, but if Shigeru Miyamoto had his way, they would be featured in everything Nintendo does. Learn more about that here.
