Shigeru Miyamoto Wants Pikmin Included in Everything Nintendo Does

Shigeru Miyamoto has created so many legendary Nintendo properties. Donkey Kong, Mario, Star Fox, and The Legend of Zelda were all created by Miyamoto. In the 2000s, he also created Pikmin. Now, he says he’s on a mission to include Pikmin in any product he can.

Right now, Miyamoto is totally focused on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which recently hit theaters. Prior to the film’s release, it was revealed that Pikmin would appear in the movie in some capacity. Along with Star Fox, it seems that the legendary producer is trying to call his own shot and feature as many of these legendary characters on the big screen as possible.

Shigeru Miyamoto’s Pikmin Mission

During an interview with IGN, Miyamoto was asked whether he requested that Pikmin be featured in the film. In response, he says it was much more serious than a request. He’s personally on a mission to feature Pikmin everywhere.

“Now I wouldn’t say a request,” he said. “More like a mission. I’m on a mission to try to include Pikmin in any kind of Nintendo product we put up. Obviously Pikmin can be appearing anywhere, but the idea, the setting of Galaxy really lends itself to having Pikmin be there as part of the world. So I was waiting in anticipation for what kind of ideas came from illumination.”

The Pikmin were also featured in a Nintendo animated short, “Close to You, in 2025. It was the first animated release from Nintendo’s in-house studio. The Pikmin may also be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 with an enhanced release of Pikmin 4. Learn more about that here.
