The Stop Killing Games petition has finally reached its deadline and has exceeded the stretch goal set out to clear any ‘invalidated’ votes. This means that the petition is headed to both the UK parliament and the EU Citizens’ Initiative to be considered.
In a graphic shared to showcase where the votes came from, we can see that the lion’s share originated from Germany, with more than 300,000 residents signing the petition. The United Kingdom’s breakdown got a little more granular, revealing that gamers from every single constituency, county, and borough contributed to the petition.
Nationwide
The United Kingdom couldn’t contribute to the petition headed to the EU Citizens’ Initiative thanks to Brexit, but a sidebar petition was opened to lobby the nation’s government. This petition managed to secure 189,890 signatures out of 200,000, the stretch goal. The base goal was 100,000, so the petition will be heard by parliament.
In a visual shared to show where the spread of the votes came from, something remarkable was revealed.
In every single county of the United Kingdom, including England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, gamers rose to vote in the Stop Killing Games petition. There was a single spot in the UK that wasn’t represented by scores of gamers determined to keep games from being shut down by publishers and developers.
Even Na h-Eileanan an Iar, the archipelago off the coast of Scotland known as the Outer Hebrides, with a population of just 26,000 people, contributed 90 signatures to the Stop Killing Games petition.
In the constituency where I live, more than 250 signatures were raised.
