State of Decay 3 Alpha Playtests Go Live Next Month

Undead Labs has announced that fans of State of Decay 3 can sign up for the alpha playtest of the upcoming title now.

The last we heard about State of Decay 3 was back in January 2026, when the Xbox Game Studios head revealed that the upcoming title has been “coming on really well.” Now, months later, it seems developers are finally ready to open the doors to players, as an alpha playtest is on its way.

Players Can Sign Up for the State of Decay 3 Alpha Playtest Now

A new post on the official State of Decay YouTube account has Brant Fitzgerald, co-creator of the franchise, sharing more details about the upcoming title. Fitzgerald first spoke about how the majority of the team has been working on State of Decay 2 for the past few years; however, the rest of the team was hard at work “creating cool shit for State of Decay 3”.

The developers have been meticulously reviewing player feedback to learn what they liked and disliked about State of Decay 2, including Discord, gameplay clips, and livestreams. Now they are asking the community to participate in a series of State of Decay 3 Alpha Playtests to be held next month.

Fitzgerald doesn’t want to spoil anything for the players, but he has revealed that the alpha playtest will feature 4-player co-op, some new base building and resource strategies, and a whole lot of combat. Interested readers can sign up on this website to participate in the playtest.

In other news, a report claims that State of Decay 3 is coming to PS5. Additionally, here’s a snapshot guide about the anticipated zombie survival game.
