If you’ve been wondering if a Dead by Daylight 2 would ever happen, prepare to be disappointed. Developer Behaviour Interactive has shut down the possibility.
Speaking with IGN’s Rebekah Valentine at last month’s Game Developers Conference, the studio’s head of partnerships, Mathieu Cote, and creative director Dave Richard spoke about a potential sequel to the popular multiplayer game. Despite discussions happening about doing another game or even remaking the original, they felt it wasn’t the best thing to do for the franchise or their players.
“There’s always a point where we say, okay, we could do a sequel now, and it would be far easier actually to do a sequel with a blind slate than try to fix these issues that we have, for example,” Richard told IGN. “But it never makes sense for the fans. Never ever. They’ve invested time and money on DBD.”
Cote said that the biggest thing they want with Dead by Daylight is that when players load up the game for the first time, “feel like they’re playing a game that is current.”
Despite Dead by Daylight being 10 years old, Behaviour Interactive believes that they can continue to build upon what they have and bring it, as Cote said, “kicking and screaming” into the next decade. The plan is to take the current game and keep it fresh for the players who’ve invested so much time into it.
“We’re not going to do a DBD 2, that’s for sure,” Cote said. “They’re not going to have to buy a DBD 2 and restart from scratch.”
