Star Wars Jedi Actor Reveals Conditions For Live-Action Cal Kestis

According to a recent report from The Direct, Star Wars Jedi actor Cameron Monaghan has revealed what they want for a live-action Cal Kestis.

Monaghan spoke at FanExpo Vancouver 2024, and made it clear that they are not interested in simple fan service.

Instead, Monaghan says a live-action Kestis appearance would have to “continue the story or the character in some way”.

Monaghan also reaffirms they are still “absolutely” open to playing a live-action Cal Kestis. So, they just need a worthwhile purpose for the character to return that way.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Cal And Troopers

The most recent Cal Kestis adventure was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which launched last year. Despite warm reviews from critics, fans were a bit mixed. The game still has average ratings on Metacritic.

However, the criticism often points to gameplay or technical issues. Many continue to praise Cameron Monaghan’s performance, which still feels grounded and relatable.

Monaghan’s determination to wait on a live-action appearance until the right time is commendable. It reinforces their personal commitment to the character and larger Star Wars universe.

This might reassure any skeptics about a live-action appearance, or even the next game in the series. In September 2023, Monaghan surprisingly revealed that a third game is imminent.

Speaking at an Ocala Comic Con panel, Monaghan confirmed that “we’re working on a third and we’re in the process of doing that right now”.

However, that was just weeks after Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor director Stig Asmussen left Respawn Entertainment. So, the next game could potentially take a very different direction.

Despite some division over the ongoing narrative, fans still care about Cal Kestis. And the character likely has plenty of room to grow, even in live action.
