Ian Proulx, the co-founder and CEO of 1047 Studios, apologized for the massive server issues preventing players from enjoying the open beta.
In September 2022, 1047 Studios stopped developing future updates for Splitgate to focus on a new game set in the same universe. Splitgate 2 hosted its first playtest in February, and we learned more about the sequel.
Proulx sat down with Insider Gaming and admitted that the original Splitgate had strong short-term retention but didn’t do a good enough job keeping players engaged. In response, the sequel introduces new movement mechanics, a massive 24-player multi-team mode, and a live-service model. Splitgate 2 opened its doors for everyone to try the latest features, but the beta didn’t go as planned.

1047 Studios Responds to Open Beta Server Issues

Within 24 hours of the Splitgate 2 open beta going live, 1047 was forced to temporarily take it offline due to server performance issues.
“I just want to say, I’m super sorry on behalf of myself, Nick, and the whole team at 1047,” Proulx said. “Obviously, this is not the spot we thought we would be in 24 hours after the launch of the beta. We thought we would be in great shape by now, but that’s obviously not the case.”
Proulx reassured players that the team is working around the clock to get the servers back online. 1047’s co-founder also confirmed that players still have all their purchased skins.
“We will have a more concrete update later today. Right now, I wish I had more specifics. I could tell you it will be ready at x o’clock or at this time, but I don’t have that yet. All I know is we are making progress and have fixed a lot of bugs along the way.”
Once the open beta comes back online, you can expect 25 weapons, over 10 game modes, 15 traditional maps, and 1047 revealed that there will be infinite other maps to play on.
