Capcom’s Resident Evil series saw six games sell more than 3 million copies each from mid-2025 to mid-2026, led by remakes and recent hits like Resident Evil: Requiem. This information comes from a new Game File report showing that even games over a decade old have sold millions of copies.
Resident Evil Remakes and New Games Keep Selling
Stephen Totillo’s report notes that Resident Evil 4 Remake, released in 2023, sold over 5 million copies between July 1 of last year and June 30 of this year. In the same period, Resident Evil Village sold 3.6 million copies. Resident Evil Biohazard, which is older than Village, also sold 3 million copies.
Additionally, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 sold around 4 million copies each in the same time frame.
Even Resident Evil 6 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sold over half a million copies in the same timeframe. Notably, the lowest-selling games in the franchise seem to be the Switch versions of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 6, as well as Resident Evil Revelations from 2017. Those games have sold fewer than 300,000 copies in the studied timeframe.
The Resident Evil remakes continue strong, with a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica currently in development and expected to release within the next fiscal year. The Resident Evil franchise is also thriving beyond video games.
The recently released Resident Evil movie, directed by Zach Cregger, received outstanding reviews during its first week at the box office and quickly became the highest-rated video game film on Rotten Tomatoes.
