It appears there’s fire to go with the smoke surrounding Build a Rocket Boy, as the company has officially entered administration.
On September 25, a filing was added to the company’s official UK government account, confirming the appointment of administrators. When a company appoints administrators, those in charge are removed from their role as the appointees work to decide if the company can be sold, liquidated, or simply shut down.
The official document will be available within 10 days.
The End of a Tumultuous Road For Build a Rocket Boy
This news comes just over a week after another round of layoffs took place at the Mindseye developer. Based on the comments from some employees, it seemed like the writing was on the wall for the state of the company.
“I will be seeing BARB through until the very end, helping to wrap things up here in the HR department,” HR employee Dan Hawkins wrote at the time.
Build a Rocket Boy was founded in 2016 by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies. The studio began work on its MMO and game-creation platform, Everywhere, along with Mindseye at the formation of the company. By May 2025, all references to Everywhere were removed from Build a Rocket Boy’s website.
Mindseye, on the other hand, was released on June 10 and was widely panned. The criticism towards the game even led Benzies to claim the studio and game were being sabotaged by way of a €1 million smear campaign, with internal threats of making those they “found” had been harming the game targets in a Hitman-like mission.
