Jagex launches RuneScape Reignited on December 2, rebuilding the MMO around progression, challenge, community, and meaningful rewards.
Jagex announced the refresh at the RuneFest 2026 Summit. Jagex then fleshed out the details in a blog post on October 3, 2026. Like World of Warcraft Forever, which aims to bring back lapsed players, RuneScaped Reignited aims to do the same for the long-running free-to-play MMO.
RuneScape Reignited Aims to Restore the MMO’s Core

In the blog post, Jagex calls out players who have felt lost or left behind in RuneScape, as well as newer players who are unsure how to begin.
Reignited is the culmination of everything that we have been building towards this year, and yet it is also the start of a brand new chapter.
For new players, this is an opportunity to experience 25 years of RuneScape, from a new shared starting point and as a community, almost as if the game were released for the first time today.
This is also a chance for the next chapter of RuneScape’s history to be written. To be able to walk in the footsteps of the legends before us, and carve your own story into the Hall of Legends.
For existing players, this character-based approach means we can deliver what we promised: to see your worlds thriving again and helping the community grow in all directions. Just as how Ironman players live among existing players today, Reignited characters will be part of your experience inside Gielinor every day.
Reignited is a character-based approach with an all-new economy and no paid progression. A trailer says all Reignited players will start at level 3 together in a world with no treasure hunters. The world is described as 25 years of RuinScape “rebuilt for what comes next.”
It also states that all reignited characters will have free access to members’ content for the first 10 days after the December 2 launch.
