A new report has revealed that negative playtest feedback has led PlayStation to reboot Horizon Hunters Gathering.
Recently, two Horizon multiplayer games have been announced: “Steel Frontiers,” developed by NCSoft, and “Hunters Gathering,” being developed by Guerrilla Games. Guerrilla has already conducted two closed playtests for its Horizon multiplayer title; however, it has received negative feedback.
PlayStation is Changing the Scope for Horizon Hunters Gathering
A Bloomberg report states that the Horizon Hunters Gathering team has been working on rebooting the game since June. Anonymous sources from the studio revealed that, due to negative feedback from the closed playtests earlier this year, the new plan is to eliminate the live-service component entirely. Instead, they aim to create a more traditional cooperative multiplayer game that includes a story mode and has a smaller scope.
The report also states that the game has not been canceled yet, but the development team has a December deadline to “impress executives with their next milestone.” Additionally, some members of the Hunters Gathering dev team will be reassigned to a different project, and the reassignment will be evaluated at the end of the year.
This is not the first live-service game under PlayStation’s belt to face a hit; their propositions from other big franchises like The Last of Us, God of War, and Spider-Man have also been canceled along the way. We are yet to see whether the Horizon franchise will be able to successfully put out this multiplayer title.
