Sony will continue to monitor and adjust the price for PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) based on subscription trends and the value it views it’s giving players.
As part of its gaming business presentation on Friday, Hideaki Nishino, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) CEO gave insight into the future of PS Plus and how PlayStation is approaching its pricing model.
According to Sony, 38% of its PS Plus members are subscribed to the higher-price Extra and Premium tiers. That’s an 8% increase compared to fiscal year 2022 and a 3% jump compared to last year. While that still means that 62% of subscribers are still on the Essential plan, PlayStation says that more consumers signing up for the higher tiers show’s the “value” the service has to offer players.
As far as PS Plus pricing goes, Nishino said that it will continue to change to “maximize profitability” as they add more value to the service for players.

“PlayStation Plus is highly valued by our players and continues to drive engagement,” Nishino said (h/t VGC for transcribing). “We’re already seen a trend toward the option of higher tiers within our service, as evidenced by the subscriber mix we achieved in FY2024, where approximately 38% of players are now subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra tiers.”
Nishino added that the increase in movement towards a higher tier comes despite the recent price increases across the board. That includes raising yearly plans by as much as 33% just two years ago with more increases happening in the months since.
“These price increases were partly a result of increasing value we bring to the players, through the quality and diversity of content we continue to add, as well as investment in the features to improve the service further, such as player personalization and enhanced content discovery,” Nishino said during the Fireside Chat. “The PlayStation Plus service offers great value for our players, and we will continue to add more value and adjust our pricing strategy in a dynamic way to maximize profitability.”
