Varsity High School Football Releases Latest Development Update

With work continuing on the first ever high school football video game, developer Spear Interactive has released the latest development update for Varsity High School Football.

The game has begun testing its simulation logic, going through 50 years of Dynasty. Over the course of those 50 years, there were 31,461 coaching changes nationwide, 920 different schools won a state title, and of the 1,061 schools that started with an A- grade or better, only 13% of them were A- or better after 50 years.

Within program rosters, player DNA has seen changes. According to the studio, “every player has a real skill profile shaped around a position.”

They continued, “Some are specialists: elite at one job, exposed anywhere else. Some are pure athletes who can fill any hole in your roster.”

Spear Interactive says there are 28 different ratings for players, nine of which are “at-a-glance” grades. There are also two-way players, and player conditioning now counts a player’s snaps on both sides of the ball throughout the game.

Gameplay Logic and Motion Capture Continues

Moving on to gameplay, defensive IQ has been a focus over the last month with updates to logic so players know “not only their own assignments, but also have the context of those around them.”

Schemes are also represented within game simulations. So, an Air Raid offense will spread the ball around while a Wing-T offense will utilize fullbacks more.

Finally, in addition to logic and other development, motion capture has continued for players, with special teams the next group to get recorded. As part of the update, Spear Interactive gave a look at the first in-game footage of kicking animations. Field goals, punts, and kickoffs will all be implemented into the game in September. It was also confirmed that running back motion capture will take place in September as well.
