The Nintendo Switch 2 has been released and taken the gaming world by storm, becoming the company’s fastest-selling hardware within days of release. PlayStation has now responded to the growing competition from the Switch 2.
Nintendo has hit a home run with the Nintendo Switch 2, selling over 3.5 million units worldwide. With Switch 2 bringing on third-party publishers and being more relevant to the younger generation, many investors have wondered whether this would impact PlayStation.
PlayStation is Designed for More Immersive Experiences

During a recent Q&A with the investors (thanks, MyNintendoNews), Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Hideaki Nishino responded to questions about the Switch 2 threatening PlayStation. Nishino stated that a “catalyst in the market is great for the industry as a whole”. He added that a new product like the Switch 2 helps generate excitement in the industry.
However, the CEO explained that PlayStation has a different strategy from the Nintendo Switch 2. A product like the PlayStation 5 has been “designed for immersive experiences,” which comes with innovative accessories like the DualSense controllers. Nishino added, “PS5-level performance is required to achieve a great experience on big screens,” and that’s how they provide players with a “unique offering” in this generation.
Nishino also spoke about the recent publisher strategies, which are in the direction of being multi-platform, so that more platforms can run the same game. As a platformer, PlayStation’s mission is to “continue to be the best place to play and publish”.
Regarding appealing to younger audiences, PlayStation Studios’ head, Herman Hulst, explained that their first-party content is reaching a “greater range of audiences.” The first-party lineup has been able to attract more younger players, along with “more multi-generational fan bases, such as Marvel Spider-Man.”
