It seems as though PlayStation is doing something to try to keep people from canceling their subscription to PlayStation Plus (PS Plus).
Last week, the company announced its plans to end the production of physical games starting January 2028. That led to backlash from fans, including the start of a Change.org petition, “Don’t Kill the Disc”, that sits at over 185,000 signatures as of writing. But it’s not just a petition that’s being signed.
Players have shared themselves canceling their PS Plus subscriptions, or, at the very least, posting that they’ll do it. And, based on what PlayStation is doing now, there might be something to the growing call from fans to cancel their memberships.
PlayStation Is Offering Discounts
If you have an active PS Plus subscription and you go to cancel, you may be offered an opportunity to renew for a discount. Some have reported being offered 50% off for three months. Checking myself, I was offered 25% for 12 months of PS Plus Essential.

The catch is that you have to pay upfront for the discount. You can’t just accept it and then pay that price when your plan is up for renewal.
It’s also important to note that not everyone has been presented with the same discounts, and it’s unclear if it has to do with location, length of time remaining on a plan, or something else. However, enough users, including myself, have been given offers to pay an upfront renewal in order to get the current plan at a cheaper rate.
Of course, it’s always possibly that this isn’t a response to a growing number of PS Plus cancellations. After all, many companies will off discounts on their product if you attempt to cancel, so it’s always possible that this is just normal. Still, it’s always interesting to look into and debate.
