A new preview of Grand Theft Auto 6 provides some insight into at least one developer’s playthrough experience of the game. While this wasn’t a final build, Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson played an 80-hour run earlier this year.
That playthrough occurred in February and featured some of the main campaign and some optional side quests, albeit one with narrative ramifications.
GTA 6 May Be an 80-Hour Story Experience

In a new interview with The New York Times, which covered a playthrough of the game controlled by Nelson, the rock star employee said he wants players to experience the world’s depth and interactivity. Nelson hopes that players will choose to interact with the world and enjoy playing as Jason and Lucia rather than speeding through the campaign.
“Of course we want to do everything; we want to have every mechanic that you can imagine,” Nelson said. “But we do have to carefully pick and choose what we think is best for our characters and our story and what we can handle creatively and technically… I hope that there will be people that want to get up, have a cup of coffee, shower, get dressed, go out for a little exercise,” Nelson said.
Rockstar unveiled the first official look at Jason and Lucia’s story on Netflix in a special preview on August 27.
