Planet Zoo 2 has swiftly broken the concurrent Steam record set by the original game on launch day, and now looks set to close in on Frontier Developments’ overall record.
Launched October 13 and headlined by the arrival of fully aquatic and avian species, alongside customizable Wildlife Reserves, Planet Zoo 2 has immediately made waves for Frontier Developments, and the peak looks set to rise.
Planet Zoo 2 Breaks Original Game’s Steam Record
Data from SteamDB shows Planet Zoo 2’s concurrent player peak has hit over 40,000 in just a few hours after launch, with the number continuing to rise.
To put that into perspective, the original Planet Zoo hit an all-time Steam peak of under 39,000 almost seven years ago, and the sequel looks set to make an even bigger splash.
Frontier Developments’ all-time player peak on Steam was 60,000 concurrent players in the first Jurassic World Evolution, and given the Planet Zoo 2 launch has come early in the week, it’s a safe bet to assume that figure will be surpassed at the weekend.
Even as I write this piece, the concurrent numbers are continuing to climb, and, unlike the first game, Planet Zoo 2 has launched simultaneously on XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with numbers on those platforms not available.
The sky certainly appears to be the limit for the game, which we reviewed with a perfect score, and there’s plenty more to come post-launch, given Frontier’s proud history of additional content.
