Planet Zoo 2 gives players plenty of tools at their disposal to craft the perfect environments for creatures from across the world, and just like the real world, research plays a huge part.
Frontier Developments has worked tirelessly to ensure Planet Zoo 2 provides as much realism as possible, and in the core modes, research is required to unlock items, boosts, and more.
If you want to get to grips with research in Planet Zoo 2, Insider Gaming has everything you need to know.
What is Research in Planet Zoo 2

Research in Planet Zoo 2 is a core mechanic that increases the knowledge of your staff in the game, allowing access to additional items, alongside particular boosts.
Key research includes specific animals, required to unlock their Thriving requirements, and disease, both of which are returning topics from the first game.
However, there are some additional research topics, alongside the removal of mechanic research, which means you’ll have all the items you need for building unlocked immediately.
There is some locked content, however, including animal enrichment items and educational areas, so it’s worth spreading your focus. Thankfully, all research is shared across zoos in franchise mode.
All Planet Zoo 2 Research Types
There are four types of Research in Planet Zoo 2; Species, Enrichment, Education, and Disease.
