The saga of the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. is set to come to an end. After a judge approved the recently announced settlement between Paramount and the 12 state attorneys general, it has been announced that the deal to combine the two media companies will close next week.
The ruling came down from U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguín on Wednesday afternoon.
“[T]he Court finds the proposed consent decree represents a reasonable factual and legal resolution of the dispute,” Martínez-Olguín wrote via Variety. “The parties reached their agreement following highly contested, however brief, litigation, and they reached their agreement following what they report to have been several rounds of in-depth negotiations.”
There’s Nothing Left To Do But Close The Deal
With her clearing the settlement, the deal is scheduled to close on Tuesday, October 6. When it does, the $111 billion purchase will become the largest media merger in history.
As Insider Gaming has reported in the past, when the deal closes, Paramount will be in control of all of Warner Bros. assets, including Warner Bros. Games. The games division currently holds franchises such as Batman and DC Comics, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones, among others.
While business will continue on as normally as it can with a merger like this, the future of studios like NetherRealm, Rocksteady, TT Games, and Avalanche Software remains unknown. Paramount is working on its first game under the Paramount Games Studio label, TMNT: The Last Ronin.
