Electronic Arts has maintained its popularity with annual releases of sports titles like FC, Madden NFL, UFC, etc. It’s a massive portfolio that, seemingly, is about to get even bigger as we’ve managed to come across a new job listing that reveals an unannounced AAA project in the works.
EA Sports AAA Free-to-Play Game
EA is hiring a Client Engineer at its Shanghai studio, and the details suggest this game will be a live-service, free-to-play title under the EA Sports label. While we already have a hunch of what it could be, let’s dissect the details first.
This position reports directly to the China Director, and the studio’s history shows it has mostly worked on mobile projects. But that alone doesn’t mean this game will be for mobile devices, as the studio also collaborates with other EA teams on major games like Apex Legends and Battlefield 2042.
While the job requirements mention “knowledge of mobile game development,” it’s a desired skill rather than a required skill, which makes sense since the Client Engineer could collaborate with other teams as part of EA China.
Taken directly from the EA website, “EA China is home to a number of EA’s key organizations such as EA SPORTS FC Mobile Shanghai Studio, EA Create, EA Digital Platform (EADP), Great China Publishing, Partnered Development Group (PDG), Quality, Verification & Standards (QVS), Data and Analytics (DnA). This collaborative international team provides opportunities to work on EA’s hottest IPs such as EA SPORTS FC, Plants vs. Zombies, Need for Speed, etc.”
In any case, the studio wants someone who can “deliver high-quality features and live-service support for a AAA free-to-play online title.” Moreover, it is for the EA Sports division, which could mean one of two things. Either it is a new mainline game like NHL coming to mobile, or a completely different EA Sports title being developed.
Either way, it’s interesting, and if the former is true, we can only speculate what mobile game it could be. Since the title mentions unannounced and doesn’t give a sliver of detail on the genre, we would expect this to be more than just an annual release of existing games. The earliest we might see a reveal announcement would be at The Game Awards 2026.
