AION 2, the NC-backed MMORPG that has been around in South Korea and Taiwan for almost a year, is preparing for a global launch. It’s dropping globally on October 5, but right now, thousands of players are jumping in for an early access glimpse at the game. It’s inherently free to play, but those who are getting involved right now have paid for that privilege.
That’s how the game has managed to skyrocket up the Steam charts to nestle firmly in the number-one spot on the top sellers list. Admittedly, the early access release didn’t go swimmingly, with server issues hitting players right off the bat and earning some negative review traffic as NC worked to right the ship.
AION 2 Enters Early Access Ahead of Global Launch
AION 2 will officially become a globally accessible PC-based MMORPG on October 5, but if you want, you can pay to get into the game right now. There are a few early access editions you can get via the Founder’s Pack, with the most expensive costing you an eye-watering $99.99.
Unfortunately, the earliest hours of this exclusive window were marred by mostly negative reviews, raised by those who were impacted by an inability to actually get into the game at the advertised time.
It was supposed to go live at 13:00 UTC, but that was pushed to 13:30 UTC, and then to 14:00 UTC as issues mounted, all of which were tackled by the team at NC.
As things stabilized and the game came online, the player count started to swell, and at the time of writing, a whopping 171,180 users were busy exploring AION 2’s enormous open world. That’s nothing but deeply indicative of the game’s pulling power, as the advanced early access window requires users to pay at least $24.99 to get involved.

The blip at launch was most likely a consequence of NC not anticipating such an immense load right off the bat. Of course, prospective fans of the AION 2 title weren’t happy, hence the slew of negative reviews, but things will inevitably balance out and most likely swing the other way entirely.
