Oblivion Remastered Has Developed Concerning Performance Problems on Console

Oblivion Remastered is still enjoying fifteen minutes of fame since being shadowdropped by Bethesda Game Studios on April 22. The open-world RPG that helped make Bethesda Game Studios was more remade than remastered, and it represents what’s possible when it comes to feeding the nostalgia-hungry gamers out there.

Unfortunately, the game has developed some concerning performance issues on console since its release. Recently, Digital Foundry has investigated and found that the longer you play Oblivion Remastered on console, the worse its performance becomes.

Not Ideal

In a 12-minute video uploaded by Digital Foundry’s tech experts, Oblivion Remastered was probed at length.

The team was diving deep into claims that the game’s performance started to become erratic after you’ve played for a while, which DF was able to corroborate after investigating.

In the video, issues with the game’s frame rate, crashes, and hitches were explored. These issues are prevalent even on the most powerful consoles on the market, like the PS5 Pro.

They tested the game from a fresh boot through to continuous, lengthy sessions, and they found that issues worsened the longer they played.

Fans are walking down memory lane with some of these issues, as an assortment of them were present in the first iteration of the title, released way back in 2006. Others are saying they’re not surprised, as Bethesda Game Studios titles are ‘notorious’ for having stacks of bugs and performance issues.

Bethesda has yet to release a major patch on console platforms, and judging from Digital Foundry’s investigation, PC remains unimpacted by these performance and stability issues.

Have you experienced any problems with Oblivion Remastered on console? Let me know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

  • I guess i’m just lucky. I’m on base ps5 and about 110 hours into my playthrough and regularly have the game open for 7+ hours and haven’t noticed any performance issues. In fact I was honestly impressed with how stable it seems compared to the original. Shouldn’t every ps5 perform the same as every other one? Mine is an original release one, maybe newer ones have some part different that could be causing it? Idk, it’s weird though.

  • Im on xbox series x and surprisingly I have had very few problems. The only one I can think of that HAS happened in a couple places (more than once) is I am unable to get past certain places (as if my character is too tall) and I have to completely turn off the game to fix it
